I have a love hate relationship with taking landscape pictures. I live in a country that has some of the most fantastic landscapes you could imagine. I just never seem to capture it.

However once in a while I do (Well in my eyes anyway).

My wife and I had just finished a hill walking day trip and were on our way back to the car. A thunderstorm was brewing and the clouds were ominous and looking very dark and threatening. The sunlight broke through the could cover and lift up this tree just as we were walking past.

Pussy Willow

My Wife brought some Pussy willow home to decorate for Easter.They made a great subject for my new 105mm macro and even newer Nikon R1C1 speedlight set-up.

I watched a few YouTube videos to get the hang of the basics I also read and re-read the manual and started making test shots. This was the one That I thought looked best. You can count the hairs and what’s more This shot was handheld at f/14 . All the PP was done in CaptureOne 23

Busy as a …

Back in 2013 I did a post about my friend the Beekeeper.You can read that here. I’ve always had a fascination for bees and often sit and watch them work their way over my lavender and other plants in my garden.

I sat there a few days ago with my Nikon Z6 and a 300mm lens, and this little guy shows up and places himself in profile. The shot is handheld, I supported the lens on my knees. It’s heavily cropped too, but as I wrote in the original article I never did buy that Macro lens. Although I hear that Nikon have now produced a 100mm Z-mount lens to a reasonable price. So who knows?

Just for a bit of fun here this the same shot in black and white. I’m still playing around in Capture One

At an Exhibition

With lockdown easing here in Norway it was possible to attend an exhibition of treasures loaned to a local gallery by the closed National Gallery. There were some real Norwegian treasures to look at. A great day out.

Sandals

Sandals

It’s raining today. I was supposed to be doing other things . However those were outside. Still after wondering what I should use my time on I found my daughters sandals on a shelf by the window. They made a great subject for my new camera’s macro function. This shot was taken handheld and at ISO1600

I’m very pleased with the result so I thought I’d share it with you dear reader.

Not Drawn

Another shot from my early morning commute. Every now and again I see a black and white photo that looks like it could have been drawn by some artist. Just simple lines on paper. When I got home and saw this shot on a large display I got the that feeling that it had been drawn by my camera. The magic ends when I tell you that it is the remains of an old dock in the local river taken early one foggy morning. So just imagine I painted it instead.

Early mornings

I get up early most days, it’s one of the few advantages of being a boarder line insomniac. It meansI have plenty of time to cycle the 18 km’s to work before the local town is awake or have even thought about waking up.

I’m lucky in that at least nearly a half of my route takes me along the river path where there are lots of things I can record and the weather is never the same.

This Picture was taken at around 04.30 in the morning everything was totally quiet even the ducks were sleeping when I rolled to a stop by this old stone quay.

It was a foggy start that day so there was plenty of atmosphere I took this low shot which a mate said looked like the cover of some new Scandinavian Crime novel. Anyway just to show the difference I took a similar shot next day without fog and a different aperture setting.

Doing the Twist

One of my fav shots from last summers lockdown summer holiday. It’s an art gallery not far from my home. I had to photoshop out the crowds and a large crane over the trees but overall not a bad result.
